Five Lockheed plants win defense contractor award

Five Lockheed Martin facilities were honored last week with James S. Cogswell Awards for outstanding achievement in industrial security. The five award-winning facilities, all part of Lockheed Martin's Missiles and Fire Control business unit, are located in Camden, Ark.; Chelmsford, Mass.; Dallas; Ocala, Fla.; and Troy, Ala.

The announcement of the Cogswell award winners was made at the annual seminar of ASIS International in San Diego.

The Cogswell award is the highest recognition bestowed annually by the U.S. Defense Security Service (DSS) on a defense contractor. This year, only 29 facilities were selected to receive the award out of more than 11,000 eligible.

"What a tremendous honor it is for five of our facilities to be recognized by DSS with the Cogswell Award," said James F.

Commercial Construction Gains Ground as Residential RE Slips

BY MOLLY NANCE

As the end of the year approaches, the construction industry will see a smooth transition into 2007, a prediction based on the 31st annual CIT Construction Industry Forecast.

CIT Construction offers financial products and services to contractors, equipment dealers, equipment-rental companies and other construction-related clients. The firm is a unit of CIT Group Inc., a New York City-based commercial and consumer finance company, with $68 billion in managed assets.

Its annual report is a national culmination of industry insiders predictions for a relatively positive future for the next year, including an upswing in the commercial real estate market.

The 900 contractors and equipment distributors that were surveyed measured their perceptions of next years progress from what is called an Optimism Quotient, or OQ.

Contractor General stands behind the integrity of his report

Swim Club Construction Gets Under Way in Chula Vista

The Lomas Verdes community, developed by San Diego-based Corky McMillin Cos. in Chula Vistas Otay Ranch, is adding a swimming pool as a perk for its residents.

Construction of the 1,800-square-foot Enclave Swim Club will start in October and is set for completion in June.

We need to offer more with our homes, said Rey Ross, project manager for McMillin Lomas Verdes. The swim club will cater to residents living in the Indigo, Jacaranda and Terracotta subdivisions.

In todays day and age we need to have amenities, like a swim club, that bring value to the community and complements it, Ross said.

The swim club is planned for Spanish-style architecture in a country club setting, according to Ross. The pool area will consist of a spa, a wading pool for children, a playground, an open-air party area and two barbecue areas.
