  Olympic construction unearths Beijing tomb

BEIJING, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Chinese workers constructing an Olympic shooting range have discovered an ancient Ming Dynasty tomb in Beijing.

The tomb, from the dynasty that ruled from 1368-1644, is located near several other tombs discovered in May, the BBC reported Monday. Beijing officials said construction was halted at the site after workers laying pipes came across a "relatively large chamber with a structure."

Beijing officials said the exact age of the tomb had not yet been determined.

The Olympic venue in Beijing is expected to be completed far earlier than the August 2008 opening ceremony.

Video May Reopen Iraq Contractor's Death

AMES, Iow -- Family members and several prominent Iowa lawmakers called on Thursday for a new investigation into the death of an Iowa contractor in Iraq after video surfaced of the killing.

Keven Dagit of Jefferson was working for Halliburton last September when insurgents attacked his convoy. Dagit's parents, Lloyd and Gloria, want to know why U.S. troops left their son and a group of contractors alone, with no way of defending themselves after their convoy came under attack.

The new video may shed fresh light on that and other questions. .

Swim Club Construction Gets Under Way in Chula Vista

The Lomas Verdes community, developed by San Diego-based Corky McMillin Cos. in Chula Vistas Otay Ranch, is adding a swimming pool as a perk for its residents.

Construction of the 1,800-square-foot Enclave Swim Club will start in October and is set for completion in June.

We need to offer more with our homes, said Rey Ross, project manager for McMillin Lomas Verdes. The swim club will cater to residents living in the Indigo, Jacaranda and Terracotta subdivisions.

In todays day and age we need to have amenities, like a swim club, that bring value to the community and complements it, Ross said.

The swim club is planned for Spanish-style architecture in a country club setting, according to Ross. The pool area will consist of a spa, a wading pool for children, a playground, an open-air party area and two barbecue areas.

Parker: Bright lights suddenly shining on Littleton contractor

Littleton contractor Adam Berlin makes a living getting down and dirty. But he didn't expect to parlay his skills as a home-repair expert into a TV host gig.

"My wife received an e-mail from a friend that said they were looking for a contractor in the metro area who could host five TV shows," said Berlin, who owns Maverick Home Remodeling Inc. in Littleton. "They asked for a five-minute video and a one-page bio."

So Berlin and his wife, Kelly, taped a skit. "I pretended my wife is a client who has a problem with the bathroom," he said. "I come in and say, 'Let's fix it.' "

After three on-camera interviews, Berlin was hired as the host of Sweat Equity, a DIY Network series where the contractor advises homeowners on how to do projects themselves to increase the value of their homes.

Contractor's Iraq work criticized

LOS ANGELES - For years, Parsons Corp. has profited from a steady stream of U.S. government contracts for everything from disposing of hazardous weapons material to rebuilding hospitals, highways and other infrastructure.

Led by a retired Army colonel, the low-profile engineering giant has remained under the radar of most public interest groups and oversight bodies to become a key player in the reconstruction of Iraq, with contracts worth about $2 billion.

But shoddy work recently prompted the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to cancel its $75 million contract to renovate a critical police training academy in Baghdad. Parsons also lost deals to build a prison and dozens of medical clinics in that country after the government cited missed deadlines and cost problems.
