A CONTRACTOR has been found guilty of a catalogue of health and safety errors after a worker fell to his death. Warrington Crown Court heard David Moran, aged 31, had no demolition or construction qualifications for the cash-in hand job at Chesford Grange, Woolston, where he was killed in September 2002. He died after falling eight feet through a fragile roof he had been instructed to work on. .
(CBS4) BOSTON A masonry contractor faces proposed fines totaling 119-thousand dollars from a scaffolding collapse in Boston last spring that killed three people.The U-S Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced the penalties against Walpole-based Bostonian Masonry on Friday.Federal officials cited the firm for eight alleged safety violations in the April third accident at the construction site for Emerson College's new dormitory and campus center. Two workers and a passing motorist were killed when a construction platform plunged 13 stories.The accident happened when bracing was being removed as the scaffolding was being dismantled. Investigators found there was nothing to prevent the tower and platform from tipping when the bracing was removed.There was no immediate comment from Bostonian Masonry.
LOS ANGELES - For years, Parsons Corp. has profited from a steady stream of U.S. government contracts for everything from disposing of hazardous weapons material to rebuilding hospitals, highways and other infrastructure. Led by a retired Army colonel, the low-profile engineering giant has remained under the radar of most public interest groups and oversight bodies to become a key player in the reconstruction of Iraq, with contracts worth about $2 billion. But shoddy work recently prompted the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to cancel its $75 million contract to renovate a critical police training academy in Baghdad. Parsons also lost deals to build a prison and dozens of medical clinics in that country after the government cited missed deadlines and cost problems.
After testifying before the Legislature's Joint Performance Review Committee, Young declined to comment about whether he violated the ethics laws. He told lawmakers that he is paid $ 95, 000 a year as director of the cooperative, where he has worked several years. Young said he thought it would be appropriate for Arch Ford to issue the cell phone and credit card to his daughter because the expenses would be reimbursed to Arch Ford, but Arch Ford's board of directors wasn't aware of the arrangement. Williams said the audit has been referred to Tom Tatum, prosecuting attorney in the 15 th Judicial District. Tatum said later that he recently received a copy of the audit but hasn't taken any action yet.
Female-owned businesses represent a strong presence in the U.S. economy and they continue to grow at faster rates than any other types of ownership. However, simply being one of the 10.6 million firms that are at least 50 percent owned by a woman or women is not a guarantee of fiscal success. Author Janet Christy, who owns a South Carolina-based consulting firm that helps female- and minority-owned businesses, shares guidelines for this group to use the leverage that their status affords in today's business climate. Christy's focus is not on grants or "free money" for starting and running a business. Rather, she concentrates on marketing and selling since "that is what will sustain your business and make it successful," she says in the book's Introduction.
The scope of this Performance Work Statement (PWS) provides comprehensive communications services to support the Office of Strategic Analysis and Communications (OSAC) in achieving the communication goals and strategies of NASA and Marshall Space Flight Center (Marshall). To that end, OSAC will execute an overarching communication strategy that includes clearly and consistently communicating NASA's strategic vision and guidance, and Marshall's direction, roles, capabilities, and expectations - internally and externally - to various stakeholder groups. In accomplishing these communication activities that directly support the advancement of Agency goals and Marshall mission assignments, the contractor shall provide communications related support as outlined below. The contractor shall support Marshall in implementing and maintaining a strategic communications capability that integrates and aligns the Center's communications with Agency direction to enable informed communications and manage effective stakeholder relationships for advancement of NASA's strategic goals.
