SAN FRANCISCO - Traffic delays on Larkin Street between McAllister Street and Golden Gate Avenue are expected this morning as construction crews are scheduled begin working at 9 a.m. to replace a sewer main on Larkin Street, San Francisco Department of Public Works spokesman Frank Lee reported Monday. Motorists traveling northbound on Larkin Street and around the Civic Center are expected to experience delays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. while crews work in the two center lanes, according to Lee. Construction is expected to continue Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the next four to six weeks. Copyright © 2006 by Bay City News, Inc.

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) -- A worker has been killed while doing maintenance on a boiler unit at a Midwest Generation plant in Joliet today. Will County Sheriff's spokesman Pat Barry says it appears that three independent contractors fell into an "ash pit" at the plant. Company spokesman Charley Parnell says two workers managed to escape to safety but a third was killed in the accident. The area where the contractors were working was off-line at the time. Parnell says Midwest Generation is cooperating with investigators. Last month, several workers were injured in an explosion at a Midwest Generation plant in nearby Romeoville. The company produces wholesale power and sells the electricity on the open market. It operates six plants in Illinois. © 2006 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
