JASPER, Tenn. Marion County government has sued a Chattanooga construction company over a new heath department building under construction. Records show a stop work order was issued by county officials in April, shortly after McBrayer Construction began work on the 660-thousand-dollar building in Jasper. Building inspectors claimed McBrayer didn't properly install structural supports in the concrete pad of the building and failed to install wire mesh in the pad as the architect's plans required. The company sued in July, claiming Marion County breached its contract and owed the company 180-thousand dollars for work already done. The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports a lawyer for McBrayer didn't return phone calls seeking comment on Friday. Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
The funding for a project to lengthen the primary runway at the Sheboygan County Memorial Airport caught up with construction Monday, when the secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation delivered a ceremonial check for $2.6 million to airport manager Chuck Mayer. The runway extension, one in a series of projects designed to make the airport better able to handle large aircraft and increased traffic, began Labor Day weekend and is expected to be completed at the end of November. Ninety-five percent of the money, or $2.4 million, is from the Federal Aviation Trust. Sheboygan County and the State of Wisconsin each contributed 2.5 percent, or $65,000, to make up the rest of the total. Mayer said the extension, which will take the runway from 5,400 feet to 6,000 feet, has been in the works a long time.
