Swim Club Construction Gets Under Way in Chula Vista

The Lomas Verdes community, developed by San Diego-based Corky McMillin Cos. in Chula Vistas Otay Ranch, is adding a swimming pool as a perk for its residents.

Construction of the 1,800-square-foot Enclave Swim Club will start in October and is set for completion in June.

We need to offer more with our homes, said Rey Ross, project manager for McMillin Lomas Verdes. The swim club will cater to residents living in the Indigo, Jacaranda and Terracotta subdivisions.

In todays day and age we need to have amenities, like a swim club, that bring value to the community and complements it, Ross said.

The swim club is planned for Spanish-style architecture in a country club setting, according to Ross. The pool area will consist of a spa, a wading pool for children, a playground, an open-air party area and two barbecue areas.

Contractor General to face PAC again

Contractor General Greg Christie is to face the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament for the second time to give members an opportunity to ask questions in relation to his report on the Sandals White-house project.

At its last sitting, Government member and attorney-at-law K.D. Knight sought to ascertain whether the Contractor General had exhausted the available channels to obtain information from the Urban Development Corporation (UDC), one of the entities accused of gross mismanagement of the project, which resulted in cost overruns of more than US$43 million.

Incomplete report

Mr. Knight and other Government members accused Mr. Christie of submitting an incomplete report to Parliament.

There were intense exchanges during the discussion when Mr. Knight took on the role of a defence lawyer posing a number of questions to the Contractor General, who asked whether he was being cross examined.

GOF Hq project to resume in January

Papar: Construction work at the General Operations Force (GOF) headquarters at Kinarut, here, will resume January next year, said Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Mohd Johari Baharum.

Mohd Johari said Masenang Sdn Bhd, previously a sub-contractor in the project standstill, had been appointed by the Government as the main contractor.

"Masenang was chosen to finish the project as it had been involved in the project from the beginning and they knew about the work well," he said to reporters at the project's site office, Monday.

According to Mohd Johari, the RM215 million project, which is now 38 per cent complete, will be completed in 18 months.

He said the project now requires RM120 million, which should be enough to see to its completion in early 2008.

"The amount could run off a bit because we don't know exactly what is at the site," he said, adding a total of RM78 million had been paid off to the original main contractor before its service was terminated.
